Loy Norrix’s MLK. Jr. Social Justice Book Quiz Bowl 9th/10th and 11th/12th teams are
once again District Champs.  The 9th/10th for the 7th year and the 11th and 12th for 6th
years in a row.

There will be no AAC today, Monday due to a staff meeting.

Attention to those interested in auditioning for the spring musical, Little Shop of Horrors,
there has been a change to the audition schedule. Solo & small group singing & acting auditions will now take place after school on Tuesday, Jan 16, and Wednesday, Jan 17.
Please sign up for an audition time outside room J-12. The group dance portion of the
audition has been moved to Thursday, Jan. 18 after school. All auditions will take place
in J-12, the choir room.
If you want to get a head start in preparing for your audition, attend our final audition
workshop today, Thursday after school. We will review the audition materials, sing
through the audition music, and answer any questions you might have about the
audition process.
Stop by the choir room to pick up a copy of the audition materials, and please see Ms.
Pelligrino or Mrs. Carrow.

The next Mental Health Awareness Arts Event meeting will take place in Ms. Layton’s
room K12 on Tuesday, January 16th at 2:30

Do you want to learn about Gandhi, work in the mission where Mother Teresa lived and
worked,  work in villages around Delhi, go to an elephant rescue center and so much
more?  There will be an informational meeting and pot luck Thursday, January 18th
from 6pm-8pm to learn about this exciting adventure?  See Mrs. May or Mr. Allen.

Students do you want to get into all the games for all sports for free and create a great
student section at the games?? Then come to the Cafeteria on Thursday and Friday
with $20.00 cash or check and buy your student section t-shirt and wear it to the games
and you will get in free.

The 2 trips for Travel Club adventures, Japan and Europe are still enrolling students.
The final enrollments are Feb. 15th.  Don’t delay to be part of this great opportunity
where you can earn 3 free college credits. See Ms. Van Lieu in A-12

Your AP scholar for today is TaMara Robertson! TaMara is a senior & has successfully completed AP Psychology and AP Chemistry. She is currently taking AP Calculus. Since the course work is harder in her AP classes TaMara has learned to study more efficiently and feels better prepared for college next year. She would recommend taking AP Psychology because it is fun & interesting and coach Bergan makes it cool. TaMara has been accepted to Western Michigan University and Michigan Tech and plans on studying chemical engineering.

Hey Loy Norrix Students! Come out and join us along with the other KPS schools
this Saturday, January 13 th  for the annual Martin Luther King Celebration.  The event will be at Western Michigan University in the Bernhard Center.  Everyone will be there to participate in different breakout sessions and lunch is provided.  The day begins at 8:45 am.  This is a fun day to hang out with friends and celebrate MLK.  For more information see Ms. May or Ms. Middleton

COMPLETE.  Testing room will be this Thursday in K12, Ms. Layton’s room, at 2:30.

Your AP Scholar for today is Katie Shantz. Katie is a junior & has successfully
completed AP US History. She is currently taking AP Studio Art and AP Government and
Politics. Katie likes that her AP classes have given her a better understanding of college
class expectations. She also feels that her AP classes have helped her prioritize school
and homework. She would definitely recommend that underclassmen take AP US History
since it is challenging but very rewarding. Katie plans on applying to U of M, Kendall, and  Lawrence Tech next year and would like to study architecture or design.

Your AP Scholar for today is Bryce Davis! Bryce is a senior and has successfully
completed AP Language, AP Biology, and AP US History. He is currently taking AP
Chemistry. Bryce feels that his AP classes have been incredibly beneficial in preparing
him for college since the workload is so much heavier. He has learned to not
procrastinate and manage his time better. Bryce would specifically recommend AP Language because Ms. English is an amazing teacher and the class really improved his writing skills. Bryce has applied to Michigan State and he plans on completing the pre-dental program.

Sword and Board will be meeting today, January 9th from 2:30 to 3:20 in room A-13.
We are a club that meets the first Tuesday of every month to play a variety
of board games. See Madame Larner in room A-13 with any questions.

The second print edition of Knight Life will be distributed today. If you didn’t already get
your free copy, find a reporter at lunch or check the newspaper stands in the library, the

successfully completed AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Government. She is
currently taking AP Calculus. Tihnae feels that her AP classes have helped prepare her
for college since the material & workload are at a college level. She would  recommend taking any AP class that you may be interested in since it can help boost your GPA and earn you college credit. She really enjoyed AP Gov since Mr. Wright is an awesome teacher & she feels it’s important to be educated on politics. Tihnae has applied to Western Michigan University, Michigan
State, and the University of Michigan. She plans on studying business.

Your AP Scholar for today is Delvin Swift! Delvin is a junior & has successfully
completed AP US History & is currently taking AP Government & AP Biology.  Delvin feels that his AP classes are preparing him for college by improving his study habits. They have also made him more comfortable with more demanding material. He would definitely recommend both AP Biology & AP Government because the teachers are amazing. He plans on applying to the University of Michigan next year and would like to be a neurosurgeon.

Picture Retakes have arrived and have been given to your first hour teacher to hand out.  If you don’t have a first hour then they will be in 2nd hr.

 

Attention seniors! The deadline for senior pictures and senior quotes has been extended to December 31st. Email your picture and quote to loynorrixyearbook@kalamazoopublicschools.net or bring to K3. Quotes must be 100 characters or fewer and school appropriate. You can email a quote even if you’ve already submitted a picture. This is the final deadline, so don’t miss it!

 

Your AP Scholar for today is Kiera Kelly! Kiera is a senior & has successfully completed AP Psychology. Kiera’s AP class made her to realize how intense her college classes will be next year & she has developed better time management skills to help with the workload. She would definitely recommend AP Psychology since learning about how the human mind works was really interesting. Kiera has applied to Wayne State, Ferris State, KVCC, & Southwestern MI College. She plans on studying Nursing.

have qualified for the first trimester Academic Pep Assembly.  The assembly is today

cafeteria during all three lunches.
