 KVCC College Night is October 8th from 6:00-7:30pm. KVCC Texas Township Campus will be hosting more than 50 different colleges, universities and training institutions to speak with students and their parents. Stop in the Guidance office for more information.

Yesterday was our 1st pick up of the Peacejam Clothing Drive and our school total is 1,011 items.  The best of the items go to our own CIS for student needs and the rest to Project Connect to help Kalamazoo’s Homeless population.  The top classes are: Peterson/May, Rashad/May, O’Bryan, Wagenaar, Rolfe, Williams, King, Young, Pelligrino, Pankop and Pickell

Homecoming Tickets will be on sale in all three lunches this week, from sophomore executive board members and from Mrs. May.  Again get them when they are $5 because at the door they will be $10.  If you are bringing a guest you will need to buy a ticket and get a guest pass for them.

AAC will be open Tuesday and Thursday this week. The testing room will be open Thursday.

If you want to be in the library during lunch, you need a pass. Stop by to get one in the morning before school, or ask a teacher. Yes, you need a pass every day.

Thank you to all who auditioned for the cast of our fall musical. The callback list for Mamma Mia has been posted on the choir room door and online. If your name is on the list, please report to room J-12, the choir room, today after school. 

If your name is on the callback list, it does not mean you have been cast. If your name is not on the callback list, it does not mean you have not been cast. 

The final cast list will be posted this weekend on the Loy Norrix Performing Arts Facebook page and on Instagram, and our first meeting for cast and crew will be Monday, Sept. 24th at 4pm in J-12.

The next meeting of the Loy Norrix Film Society is today from 2:30 to 3:30pm in room B-12. All Loy Norrix students are invited to attend, particularly those with a passion for watching, discussing, and cracking jokes about films. No prior film watching experience is necessary. For more information, contact Mr. Pickell (pronounced pick-HELL) in room B-12.

The Third 90 Network of Michigan Colleges Alliance is offering an opportunity to participate in a meaningful project in environmental sustainability with faculty and students from Michigan colleges and universities. This is a state-wide, nationally recognized program that exposes students to the college environment and focuses on STEM career awareness. You will be able to get hands-on learning opportunities through college visits and trips along with several afterschool workshops.   This program is looking for students who are self-motivated and will be highly dedicated. There are only 10 spots available. For more information and an application, please see Mrs. Young in M14. Deadline is September 21st. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity!!!!!

We will also have additional practices on Saturday and Sunday to prepare for Monday’s game. Your permission slip must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned before you practice. The game will take place Monday, September 24 at 6:30, so mark your calendars!

The Third 90 Network of Michigan Colleges Alliance is offering an opportunity to participate in a meaningful project in environmental sustainability with faculty and students from Michigan colleges and universities. This is a state-wide, nationally recognized program that exposes students to the college environment and focuses on STEM career awareness. You will be able to get hands-on learning opportunities through college visits and trips along with several afterschool workshops. This program is looking for students who are self-motivated and will be highly dedicated. There are only 10 spots available. For more information and an application, please see Mrs. Young in M14. On Monday, the cross country teams raced in the first divisional jamboree of the season at Linden Grove Middle School. In spite of the heat and humidity, the team performed better than expected. Yoshiya Anderson and Lily Daniels both set personal bests. Loy Norrix even had the top four freshman girls’ times of the day. The boys and girls teams finished 4th and 3rd respectively. The next race is at Jackson’s Ella Sharp Park Friday for JV runners and Saturday for the varsity.

The singing & acting auditions for the fall musical, Mamma Mia will be today, Wednesday. The audition sign-up sheet is on the choir room door. No prior musical or performance experience is needed to join us, so bring yourself and a friend to audition for this high-energy show! See Ms. Pelligrino with any questions!

Chess Club starts today from 2:20-3:30 in Computer Lab D-10.  Anybody may attend and anyone who beats Mr. Bellware wins a customized chess board.

Today is the day when we are going to celebrate the United Nations
International Day of Peace in the auditorium from 2:30-4:30.  Come
watch a video about the apartheid in South Africa.  Afterwards we will
break into small groups, discuss the video and brainstorm ways to use
anti-racism practices at Norrix and our community. At the end you will receive a bag of popcorn and a bottle of water to enjoy on your way home.  Transportation is NOT provided so plan on how you are going to go home afterwards.
